In this video, you’ll learn how air conditioners work. Air conditioners work on the principle of evaporation, but they are different from evaporative coolers. The evaporation of the refrigerant takes place within evaporative coils, and the phase change cools them to a great degree. The A/C fan blows air across these coils, cooling your home.

We had Proctor Engineering, the independent contractor in charge of the NV Energy Check Me Program, on today’s show where they discussed all of the details of how NV Energy is literally giving away money to tune up your air conditioning system and in many instances giving between $750 – $1000 to replace your old inefficient system with an upgraded system that uses far less energy.

The invention of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration impacts our quality of living in ways we perhaps couldn’t even imagine … from the medical field, agriculture, foreign policy, and the fact that 9 of the top 10 largest cities are now in the Southwestern United States as opposed to Eastern United States. In fact, just this year the American Society of Engineers voted the invention of Air Conditioning to be in the top 10 best inventions of the century. In today’s show we discussed the history of how Air Conditioning came to be along with some of the different uses for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration not commonly thought about. Perhaps one of our most interesting radio shows yet.
